2018-01-06 Koenigsgolfen Today the small yearly leisure tournament Koenigsgolfen took place at the Wental course. I scored 21st out of 23, playing +2, +4, +3, E on six short holes. My bag purposely contained only four discs: ESP Comet, ESP Zone, Retro Pure and (as a backup only) Zero Medium Pure. The course has one hole where a DX Teebird would have given me a bit of dis- tance advantage, but I considered it not to be worthwhile to car- ry the additional disc for only that shot, when the Comet goes nearly as far. My bag was perfect. The two midranges (Comet and Zone) covered easily all the shots I needed. Although I think that I putt a tiny bit better with the P2, the Pure putted good as well and could be thrown for approaches. The backup Pure was only necessary in two cases: For practice putting before the event started and for the rethrows when I missed the mando. :-( My main problem was lack of practice, which, of course, showed most in the putting. I haven't played disc golf for two months. My practice putts before the event started were so great. I just made them in ... without thinking. But then, when it mattered, and I did think, the intuition was lost and I missed badly. Two drop-outs when I hit the left side of the bad baskets. One three-putt. Misses low on short distances ... By the end of the second round (after ten holes or so) I finally found my putting routine. Then I got better. I don't think that it had anything to do with the Pures instead of the P2s, it simply was the lack of practice in the last weeks. My approaches were good enough, not always great, but good enough. My disc and shot selection was good as always. I don't remember a single time when I though I should have picked a dif- ferent disc or a thrown a different line. My problem was the exe- cution, and that sufferd from lack of practice. I did throw nice long annies with my Comet. I did throw shots that faded towards the basket at the end with my Zone. I did throw straight shots with the Comet. But I also did miss the tri- ple mando one time once and the second time twice. :-( I did hit trees, but not too many. Nonetheless, I shot three Birdies: one on hole 5 in the first round and two on the temporary hole 2. All after drives with the Zone. Well, I should find a way to get more practice ... some leisure disc golfing times with friends -- talking and playing, spending time together. Playing doubles, possibly. http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
