2017-10-08 Two Birdies Again on the Wiley course. As always, I started with putting. Therefore I took my two normal D-Line P2 putters, my S-Line P2 (which I only use for practice putting), and my Opto Pure driving putter (just to have one putter more). Then I put my bag about 7m away from the basket and start putting all four discs from these seven meters. For each four-disc-run I choose a different location. This forces me to calculate the wind, which is nearer to play reality, where you don't throw twenty putts from the same location, but each putt is a first one. I'm getting better with putting. I've switched to a straddle stance and believe that it improves my putting. The motion feels more natural and relaxed. Unchanged is my low spin. I'm not happy with that, but it helps not floating far past the basket on a miss. However, with the low spin my disc wobbles much and is thus more affected by the wind. Sidewind putts are worst. Nonetheless, my putting is better now than it used to be. Afterwards, I did the ``Wormburner'' excercise. That one does help me get the nose down. If I do it before a round, I do score better. Then I drove from the hole 1 tee several times. That teeshot is difficult, as it goes into a headwind on an open field. The wind was stronger today. My first drives all turned, except the Cham- pion Teebird, my most overstable disc. The second run, I gave more hyzer, but lacked the practice to find the right angle. The third time I threw the five fairways, I achieved acceptable results. At that time, two girls and a guy came to the course, carrying Ultimate discs. They were Ultimate players, who wanted to give disc golf a try. I joined them for the round. The girls wanted to play with their discs only. The guy wanted to play with his disc and one of mine to compare them. He said he wanted to try a midrange. The only ones I had with me were the Comet and the Zone. I gave him the Comet, as the overstable Zone would have been much different to his putter-like Ultimate disc. I decided to drive mainly with the DX Eagle. They definitely could throw discs! There were only two deficites they suffered from: Their discs don't fly as far as golf discs and they are too large and light for putting. But besides that, they did perform well. My drive on the short hole #5 was with the pure this time. :-) It lead to a Birdie! The two forehand drives on #4 and #6 I threw the JLS. All other drives were backhand with the DX Eagle-X. I managed to score one under Par (i.e. 26) ... for the second time. But today I had two Birdies (that's a first-timer) and three putts were close misses, i.e. two more Birdie-opportunities and one opportunity for Par-save on my only Bogey. I've never played this well. There definitely is an improvement there. It comes from a bit more distance, more nose-down and better put- ting. The Eagle was a great disc for driving. It's similar to the Star Teebird I have, just with a bit turn and a larger fade back. The JLS confirmed it's place in my bag. Currently I always take all five drivers with me. If I would have to strip them down then I'd first remove the DX Teebird. I use it hardly at all. The JLS cov- ers the spot already. Nonetheless, I see some potential for the DX Teebird when it breaks more in. The second disc I'd remove would be either the Star Teebird or the DX Eagle-X. The Champ Teebird must stay, of course, as I have nothing more overstable. And the JLS is so successful! I started to rather forehand the JLS than the Champ Teebird. I did not really miss the Comet. (Strange!) For upshots I used the Zone most times and the Pure sometimes. For jump putts I used either the Zone or the putting P2. For a tournament, I'd bag the following discs: - D-Line P2 (x2) -- putting, layups - Opto Pure -- putter drives - ESP Comet -- midrange stuff of all kinds, US drives - ESP Zone -- approaches, out-of-trouble - Q JLS -- main FH driver, neutral driver - Champ Teebird -- OS driver, overheads, out-of-trouble - Star Teebird -- main BH driver 1, with fade - DX Eagle -- main BH driver 2, with fade I would decide which of the drivers my main one is for the day. The others are only used for special situations. In this round, the girls had scored 34 and 33. The guy had scored 30 with the Ultimate disc and 31 with the Comet. For me, it was really nice to play with them. I could explain them the rules and some disc golf specifics and they should me great to watch throws with their slow discs -- so beautiful! This gives an impression why Polecats must be fun to play with. Furthermore, I they had so much accuracy in their throws! Of course they had, but still, it was impressive to me. If they had putted better, they would have scored better than me. http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
